Through a partnership of Community Fridge Project, New Jehovah Baptist Church, Island Civic Association (ICA), and Roosevelt-Austin Mutual Aid (RAMA), The Island neighborhood has launched a community fridge and pantry located at 1101 S Austin Blvd, Chicago, IL. This community fridge provides access to local residents as well as the public to free fresh produce goods, refreshments, nonperishables, and more while also serving as a beacon of our community’s solidarity. Members of our community came together to develop this project. There were some who helped build it, spending hours perfecting its structure; those who helped design and paint it so it could stand out; those who went through their own pantries or went grocery shopping just so it could be full; and the volunteers who will take time out of their busy days to maintain it. This fridge is a mutual aid resource run by the community to give back to the community.
